PTE
PTE Core (Pearson Test of English – Core) is an international English language test developed by Pearson. It is officially approved by the Government of Canada for immigration purposes, including: Permanent Residency (PR) through Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP), and other economic immigration pathways. This test is designed to assess general English proficiency, not academic English. It evaluates four key language skills: Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening.
PTE Academic vs. PTE Core?
PTE Academic is used for study purposes. If you’re applying to universities or colleges in countries like Canada, Australia, the UK, or the US, this is the test you’ll most likely need. It’s designed to assess academic English, the language used in classrooms, lectures, academic writing, and research.
PTE Core is a newer version of the test that’s specifically created for immigration to Canada. It focuses on general English — the kind of communication skills you’d use in daily life or the workplace, not in an academic setting. So, if you’re applying for Permanent Residency through Express Entry, PNPs, or other economic immigration streams, PTE Core is the test you need.
